Several governorates experienced rainfall of varied intensities and occasionally thundershowers causing overflow of wadis, on Tuesday.
The rain was the result of the formation of cumulonimbus clouds over the Hajar Mountains extending to the coastal areas overlooking the Sea of Oman. Several wilayats of Muscat Governorate experienced light rain.
The wilayats of Saham and Suhar in North Al Batinah Governorate experienced heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, accompanied by downdrafts and hail. The heaviest rainfall was reported in the Wilayat of Saham particularly along the road connecting the wilayat to Wadi Haybi in Suhar causing overflow of wadis in the mountainous areas as a result.
In the Wilayat of Suhar, the heaviest rainfall was reported in Wadi Al Badi area causing flash floods and material damage, including damage to electricity poles and private farms.
The Wilayat of Al Rustaq in South Al Batinah Governorate also experienced rainfall of varying intensities concentrated in the villages of Wadi Bani Ghafir. Meanwhile, several wilayats of the Al Dakhiliyah Governorate witnessed thunderstorms, particularly in the wilayats of Samayil and Bidbid.
Forecasts issued by the Meteorology Department indicate continued localized activity today (Wednesday) with the possibility of thundershowers of varying intensity.
